Student of the Month

The Student of the Month program is a schoolwide program meant to promote and recognize student success in and out of the classroom.  Students must exemplify outstanding characteristics as a student and/or as a citizen of the school community.  This program is designed to nominate and select students who demonstrate Viking Pride at South Gate Middle School.

Nomination Criteria
To be nominated as Student of the Month for Academics, the candidate must be in good academic standing, i.e. no D’s, F’s, or U’s.  A student can be nominated for either Academics or Citizenship but not both.  Students cannot receive an award more than once within a year.

Who Nominates?
SGMS Viking faculty and administration will nominate students each month.  Each month the staff will be reminded of the nomination deadline, the 3rd Friday of the month, and will be sent a link to complete the electronic nomination application.   Each staff member can only nominate one (1) student per month.

Selections
One boy and one girl will be randomly selected (computer generated) for each grade level.  The selected student's picture and name will be showcased during the month of recognition in the school’s newspapers, SGMS Today, on the school’s website, and in the Student of the Month display case in the main building.  Administration will also present a Student of the Month certificate and a prize to the student during Lunch.  Applicants that are not selected may be nominated for the following month.
