Every child is an artist.
The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.
Mr. Lutz is the Visual & Media Arts Teacher at South Gate Middle School.
In addition to teaching Art, Mr. Lutz either currently serves or has previously served on the Academic Achievement Leadership Team, the Viking Learning Committee, Co-Chair of the Shared Decision Making Council, the teacher union's Chair, Co-Chair, and Chapter Political Action Coordinator, Lead Teacher of the Small Learning Community, The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, and Chairman of the Fine Arts / Elective Department. At the district level, he's a member of UTLA's House of Representatives and was selected to serve on its House Rules Committee.
Mr. Lutz is the Creator and Producer of our three annual week-long Talent Shows: "South Gate Idol," "Teachers Got Talent," and "Dancing With the Students," South Gate Middle School's celebrated and highly-acclaimed premier events of the school year!
Mr. Lutz lives on the Westside with Mrs. Lutz. They have three grown children, one who's an LAUSD High School Physics and Chemistry teacher, and one who was a Santa Monica High School English teacher. Before she became a Psychotherapist / Marriage Counselor, his wife used to be an elementary school teacher. (A family of teachers!) In his spare time, Mr. Lutz likes to... (actually, he doesn't have any spare time!)
Mr. Lutz has been interested in Art since he was a youngster. He developed his skills all through his childhood and majored in Art in High School. Well versed in most all forms of Art, his areas of emphasis are silk-screen printmaking and digital art & computer graphics. Mr. Lutz was an Art Education major and received a B.A. degree from Michigan State University. Upon graduation, he received his Teaching Credential in Art at the age of 21.
