MR. WIMER’S COURSE OUTLINE: Seventh Grade History

Textbook: World History & Geography (Medieval and Modern Times)

Dear Parent(s):

I, Mr. Wimer, will be serving as your child’s history teacher this year. I am an effective, experienced teacher who gets along well with students. I maintain a safe, orderly classroom and do my best to keep students interested and focused on learning. Not only will I work hard to help your child learn the required history content, but will help your child improve his/her reading, speaking, listening, and reasoning skills as well.

I will contact you immediately if any concerns arise regarding your child so that we can work together to help him/her to be successful. Feel free to come by for a visit anytime. My door will always be open to you. If you prefer to talk on the phone, just let me know and I will call you right away. You can call the school and leave a message for me or you can email me at dwimer@lausd.net.

This course will cover the history of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas during the Middle Ages. If you would like to know more about the specific topics we will cover, send a note with your child and I will provide more information or you can Google “California Content Standards” and/or “California Common Core Standards” on the internet and follow the link for seventh grade. Better yet, come in for a visit on “Back-to-School Night,” and we can discuss the curriculum and much more! I would enjoy meeting you.

Your child will engage in a variety of activities such as class assignments and discussions, quizzes, exams, essays, and projects. I require all students to fully participate in these activities to ensure maximum academic growth.

Students should bring the following to class each day: TEXTBOOK, notebook paper, 2 black or blue pens, two pencils, and a good attitude.

Class Rules: 1. Arrive to class on time.  2. Raise your hand and get permission to speak or get out of your seat.  3. Do nothing to disrupt the learning process.  4. Follow directions the first time.  5. No food, gum, or drinks (except water) allowed in class.

Grades are based on a point total and traditional grading scale:  90-100% = A, 80-89% = B, 70-79% = C, 60-69% = D, 0-59% = F. Your child will not have difficulty passing this class if he/she completes assignments and puts forth some effort. I walk around the room frequently to help students and to make sure they are working.

I look forward to working with you and your child; it’s going to be a great year!
