Student Community Service Information

Parents & Students

The magnet program, in its commitment to provide students with unique learning opportunities and experiences, has developed and implemented a community service component to our program. The intent of the community service component is to encourage students to be active and engaged members of their community and to develop self- awareness of community issues.

Student community service refers to voluntary/unpaid service. Students will be encourage to complete a minimum of ten hours of community service before the end of each school year. Each student should have a total of 30 accrued hours by the time he/she completes the 8th grade. Not completing the minimum of 30 hours by 8th grade may negatively impact culmination.

Various forms of student community service opportunities will be announced and made available to all students throughout the school year via the school web. We strongly encourage parents to accompany their child to any off-site community service.

All 6th, 7th & 8th grade students will be provided with a Community Service Verification Form to record their services and hours completed. The Community Service Verification form should be neatly completed and submitted to the Magnet Office for record keeping.

We strongly believe that a community service component will help provide opportunities for students to act as vital members of their community, create meaningful social change and assist in increasing student engagement and motivation. Your support is greatly needed ensure the success of this component.  Feel free to call me at (323) 569-4017 or email me at agomez11@lausd.net if you have any questions or concerns.

Padres y Estudiantes
