South Gate Middle School - STEM Magnet Program is a 6th - 8th grade program located in its own area on the campus of South Gate Middle School. The program has been recognized as an "Excelling School" under the School Performing Frameworks (SPF). Schools that fall within this category are generally defined by high status academic performance and high levels of growth.
The program is designed to develop life-long learners. The school serves students of the South Gate Middle School residential area. The enrollment is 368. The program operates on a traditional school calendar. Interested families must complete and submit the Choices Application to LAUSD by November deadline. The district will then verify information on the application and assign points to applicants based on a district wide system (for more information you may lo onto echoices.lausd.net). Students accepted to the program will be notified by LAUSD during the spring semester.
South Gate Middle School - STEM Magnet Program provides a rigorous, exciting, and interactive academic program designed to meet the learning needs of all students. Our program offers a balanced, comprehensive Common Core Standard-Based curriculum that challenges students across all academic subjects.
We strongly believe; all students have a right to a quality education, will internalize grade level Common Core Standards while exploring new technologies and practical applications of the subjects they are learning and be academically prepared in all subject areas for a successful transition to high school.
Our staff is committed to providing every student with a high quality education in a safe community anchored environment that promotes in the student body a strong sense of individual responsibility and achievement.
Instruction in our program is discovery and inquiry-based, concentrating on a collaborative learning environment with challenging projects, labs and activities for students.
Expectations of Student Performance
Success in the program requires students to be dedicated, willing and open to new experiences. Student participation and good study habits are key factors. Success also involves the support of motivated teachers and dedicated parents.
